Atelier de projet 1
Weekly outline
-

Project Workshop 1 constitutes the first basis for students enrolled in 1st year architecture -engineering course, to introduce them to the fundamental principles of architectural drawing and the various representation techniques used by architects as well as the rules of composition and organization of planar geometric shapes and volumes. Besides acquiring technical skills, it helps the students to develop their artistic and intellectual abilities, imagination, and be creative at many levels. Additionally, it also helps them to develop their ability to read and analyze an architectural project and to present it graphically, orally and through written expressions.

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
. Discover architecture, its language, its means and its representation techniques.. Learn the lexicon of composition and organization.. Apply the modes of organization and transformation on geometric forms and volumes.. Analyze an architectural project in its form and composition, which has the secondary objective of getting to know the great masters and their works.. Create a well thought out volumetric composition. -

The course Project Workshop 1 includes two major pedagogic units: architectural drawing and architectural composition. It is a module that uses versatile teaching methods such as : presentations, long and short exercices, work on models, reading and synthesis of works,... etc.
As such, some prerequisites ought to be met for the student to be able to provide consistent work in this course throughout the semester:
- Knowledge on general culture and geometry.
- Technical skills of Artistic expression.
- Some understanding of the history of Art and Architecture.
