This course, Literary Texts, is a detailed exploration of literature in English. Divided into four chapters, this course provides a follow-up to first year License's course Initiation to Literary Texts. Throughout the first semester, Second Year License students will acquire elaborate details on the subject matter. The course starts with an introduction to literature which affords literature's definition along with a historical overview on the rise of English literature in particular, an explanation of literary language, and ending with definitions of the major genres literature is presently divided into. Each one of the subsequent chapters takes on one genre (poetry, drama, or prose) into a detailed study, highlighting in the process the pertinent literary elements, techniques, and devices necessary for students to conduct a nuanced analysis of any given literary work. As a result, students will be able to trace the commonalities and differences between poetry, drama, and prose. Finally, a practical part with activities and tests is embedded at the end of each chapter to allow students to self-assess understanding and critical thinking.

Key words: literature, genres, poetry, drama, prose, literary elements, literary devices.
