The teaching of English for Science and Technology students in freshman year is of great importance. The syllabus of English 01 acquaints the learner with the type of English which is relevant to his field of study. The course is divided into a set of learning units which focus on verb tenses, parts of speech and types of sentences.

This course aims to:
- Develop the reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities of the students.
- Acquaint students with technical and scientific grammar and vocabulary.

Targeted students: science and technology first year students
Time devoted: 22h 30min (15 weeks, 1h 30min per week)
Teaching mode: in classroom, notes are also provided on Moodle
Lecture timing: section A on Sunday (15:30-17:00), section B on Monday (10:00:-11:30) and section c on Monday (14:00-15:30)
Place: Amphi I- ST main campus
Evaluation mode: Final exam out of 20 (coefficient 01, credit 01)

The following is necessary for an effective learning process:
- A reasonable standard of written and spoken English.
- Good communication skills to interact with the instructor and
classmates.
Students need to perform two tasks to assess their prerequisite skills . The tasks can be found on Moodle and need to be performed during the first week of the first semester.

This course consists of three chapters which are: verb tenses, parts of speech and types of sentences. Each chapter is divided into sub-sections.
The course is organized as follows:
- Theoretical sessions to provide the students with all the knowledge needed to improve their writing and speaking skills and to help them in solving exercises in problem solving sessions, group activity and final exam.
- Problem solving sessions (in groups) are present after each learning unit (chapter) to enable the students to test their abilities to retain and recall information.
- The course is delivered in hybrid, face-to-face (in class) and remotely via the distance learning platform which will allow the students to download the different chapters and solve exercises.
